Fall is here! If you're coming for a visit, Le Train Bleu recommends putting on a Karen Walker dress and getting ready to turn heads. Upload local music from The Decemberists, The Blow and Yacht and you'll have a perfect soundtrack for wandering around. ps: The artist who does a lot of The Decemberists cover art and posters is a local woman named Carson Ellis, represented by Motel Gallery on NW Couch between 5th and 6th.

To jump start your day, try Acorn, the new sister café of Half & Half which is nestled near PNCA. Have an iced americano from Courier Coffee--a one man operation. After doing all the magical things to create the best coffee ever, he bikes it personally to a few lucky cafes. A very Portland endeavor! Acorn is where the girls at Le Train Bleu start each day--the coffee and quiche cannot be beat!

Or check out Reading Frenzy, an "independent press emporium" that has been open for 13 years. Filled with local and international zines, magazines and books, they cater to people who haven't forsaken the written word in favor of blogs. Tiny and powerful, they host readings and showcase artists that shouldn't be missed.

Next, wander to the Ace Hotel where you can commemorate your visit with photos from their black and white photo booth. Connected to the Ace is the newly opened Clyde Commons which has one of the best people watching seats in town. We recommend having a house Gin and Tonic--the bartender makes his own tonic which he stores in old apothecary dropper bottles. It's old-worldly when he makes your drink, and don't even get us started on how good it is. If you're hungry, grab a seat at one of their family style tables and order from their local, sustainable, ever-changing menu. The raw scallops are divine—rich and not too fishy in flavor, and their burger is literally the best in town.

Valentines is the perfect place to end the night. It has a European charm and is tucked into an alleyway. Once you find it, you'll know you just stumbled upon a Portland secret. It's small, feels perfectly frayed, and you will never want to leave. The upstairs has little cozy nooks to take a bottle of wine and someone who earthquakes your heart and waste a few hours of the night. Valentines features local Djs and bands to play nights, and people usually are pouring out onto the sidewalk chatting and sipping on a delicious something.
